You Go, Father. More Preaching Like This And The Catholic Church Will Be Dangerous Again!

A homily given by a priest in Kingston, Ontario…

Brothers and Sisters in Christ!

Today Jesus tell us “No slave can serve two masters”, and in addition, he stresses, “You cannot serve both God and wealth”

How does that affect us today? Let me tell you how I see it.

As you know, I have just survived a bout with Prostate cancer.

A Deacon who trained with me at the same seminary is already dead of the disease. It is not a trivial thing. Not everyone is as fortunate as I.

Did you know that over the last 40 years or so, the incidence of prostate cancer has risen by over 500%?

Just a few weeks ago, a healthy young couple that I know well, had to go to a fertility clinic for an in vitro fertilization. The reason was that the young man had a low sperm count. Did you know that the average sperm count in young men has fallen by over 50% in the last 40 years?

I have also read that genital abnormalities in male babies have risen 500% over the same period.

What is the reason for these alarming trends? It is the birth control pill.

Women ingest artificial female hormones, and then excrete them into the environment. These hormones have become trace elements in our water supply.

I can tell you this because Queen’s University is a centre of expertise on the effect of environmental pollutants on unborn children, and how these pollutants act on the embryo.

However, it is actually an open secret. As long as 20 years ago, the BBC ran a program called “Assault on the Male” and it laid out the evidence for all to see. The pity is that it was quashed, and never repeated. It was never broadcast in Canada or the USA.

How can this happen? It is the service of wealth instead of God.

Yes, it can happen. Consider how long the tobacco companies were able to continue advertising cigarettes, long after cigarettes were known to cause lung cancer.

Cigarettes cause more deaths worldwide than all other drugs combined – heroin, cocaine, opium, marijuana, uppers, downers – you name it. However, despite the “war on drugs”, the USA is still the largest grower of tobacco, the largest manufacturer of cigarettes, and the largest exporter of cigarettes in the world.

Service to wealth instead of God is one again the cause.

Drug companies continue to push “the pill”, and indeed are even now trying to persuade women to take even more artificial hormone pills.

Our Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, has been against “the pill” ever since it came on the market – as you well know.

This opposition has not had much effect. Why?

People think they can serve God by obeying the Church – when it suits them, and serve “wealth” by ignoring the Church – when it suits them.

They forget that Jesus told us explicitly that we cannot serve both God and wealth at the same time. No one can serve two masters.

Unfortunately, we are polluting our planet in so many ways, that humanity could be headed for the same extinction as the dinosaurs.

The last day may be closer than we think.

We have allowed our Church to be disregarded. We have failed to support our Church as our ancestors did.

Governments now pay our Church no heed. It has no teeth.

Even while we protest about the fundamental “Right to Life” our government hands out the Order of Canada to the chief abortionist.

It is no better in the USA,

In 1988 President Reagan designated the first Thursday in May of each year as the National Day of Prayer.

In June 2007 Barack Obama declared that the USA “Was no longer a Christian nation”, and this year he cancelled the 21st annual National Day of Prayer ceremony at the White House with the excuse of “not wanting to offend anyone”

BUT… on September 25, 2009, a National Day of Prayer FOR THE MUSLIM RELIGION was held on Capitol Hill beside the White House. There were over 50,000 Muslims in D.C. on that day.

We are sitting back and letting the Moslems take over. We are fiddling while Rome burns. We have deprived our own Church of its teeth.

Perhaps the problem is that we have doubts about God and the Church?

We should not, or we will regret it.

Here is a story for the children that you might find interesting.

I was told it is true.

A young lady was down on her luck, and desperate for a job. Times were very hard, but then she had a stroke of luck. She got an interview for a position that she knew was exactly right for her.

She took out her only good set of clothes and stuck them in the washer.

But then, in the middle of the cycle, the washer broke down – locked shut.

She was horrified and in a panic. Quickly she grabbed the yellow pages, and looked for a repairman, but everyone she called, just laughed when she said she needed them to come right away.

“Oh”, she thought, “if only Dad were still alive. He could fix anything”. But sadly, her father had died several months previously.

Then she tried one last name. This time, after he heard her story, the man she called said he would be straight over, and sure enough, he arrived in less than 30 minutes.

This repairman was able to fix the machine, and soon the clothes were washed, dried and ready for ironing. The young lady was very relieved, and she thanked him from the bottom of her heart.

“Think nothing of it,” he said, “I know what it’s like to be without a job. I remember one day long ago, looking everywhere for work, until a man who was painting a fence called me over. He offered to let me help him do the painting, and then to split the wages with me.

That night my kids had a good meal. The first for quite a while………..

I’ve always wanted to do something for him in return. He was called Tom White”

The lady looked at him in surprise, and then she said, “But you have! Tom White was my father. He has sent you to help me on his behalf.”

Friends, it is we who follow the only way, and that is Jesus Christ.

It is time for us to stand up and be counted.

  1. That was indeed a good sermon. I had never made the connection between hormones in our water and teh prevelance of disease before.

The story that follows was beautiful. I have enver heard it before, but it is typical of what the Holy Souls do for those who pray and sacrfice for them.

  2. Thank you for sharing this. We need more courageous pastors indeed. We occasionnaly hear about the feminisation of fish, but nobody seems to care, not even for the sake of environment and resources if not for the sake of God…
I have a question that is off topic. I have tried to go to the Catholic Insight website lately, but I am told that there is a “page malveillante” and Internet Explorer is automatically closed.
Is there a problem with that site that you would know of?
    Thank you for a reply.

  3. If this was in fact delivered at a Sunday Mass, the priest’s Bishop should be contacted, and encouraged get this priest into a homiletics class.

That said, there’s probably a lot worse homilies out there. But then that doesn’t mean we make excuses for the ones which are brought to our attention.
