If you want to know the source and summit of what the problem is in the Catholic Church today, it can be succinctly summarized with this situation in Britain:
…In one conversation, McLeod said, Archbishop Nichols gave away what she believes to be the driving interest of the Catholic bishops in their tacit support of the homosexualist movement’s agenda. “They’ve been brainwashed into believing that is the only way to go. Nichols has said this to me, ‘We must have unity at all price. If I speak out against it, there’ll be disunity among the bishops, and we can’t have that’.”
But she said this is to place unity above the truth. “Unity is their great graven idol. I can’t judge their hearts, but I wonder what they’re thinking.”
She said that the only solution she sees now is prayer and support for a new generation of good young priests who support the Church’s teaching. “The Lord has a solution, and the good young priests are probably that. They’re beginning to get parishes.”….(Source)
I have been complaining about this false unity for years now – and particularly so since the Development & Peace abortion scandal took root. It is a unity of convenience and cowardice. McLeod hit it on the head perfectly: unity has indeed become a graven idol at all costs, even at the expense of the truth which the bishops are supposed to uphold even unto shedding their own blood.
That’s why the current institutional edifice known as the Catholic Church in the West is going to crash down. In fact, it’s already half-way through its descent. The sin and compromise of our leaders have blinded them even to what is occurring right under their noses. We must, however, not confuse the individuals and the bureaucracy of the Catholic Church with the true Catholic Church, the mystical body of Christ, on this earth. She still exists today, even if barely recognizable, in the laity, priests, religious, and bishops who are truly and really united in heart and mind with the Roman Pontiff, Christ’s vicar on earth.
When “unity” no longer serves the truth, when it is an encumbrance and even an obstacle to the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, this false unity needs to be broken.
We need a bishop to call out the false teaching and the false teachers.
In the mean time, our only hope is to raise up holy and devout children who will one day become the next leaders of our Church.
As for this wicked generation of compromising, back-slapping church leaders, they need to repent of their idolatrous ways and convert their hearts to Jesus before hell and damnation become their abode for eternity!
