Trust in media hits all-time low: survey

A gallop poll in the U.S. found that trust in the mass media has dropped to a record low. A full 60% of American said that they trust the media “not very much” or “not at all”.

Gee what a shocker. As my mom used to say, make your bed then sleep in it. The media have been playing fast and loose with the truth for so long that they’re gradually becoming irrelevant in influencing public minds. People are turning to blogs and alternative media for the real goods.

Here’s another non-surprise: Democrats trust the media much more than Republicans or Independents. 58% of Dems say they trust the media “a great deal” or a “fair amount”. So much for independent thinking. They appear more likely to swallow whatever they’re told. The Party of the Kool-Aid drinkers. Ditch the donkey logo and replace it with a giant red jug.

Republicans, on the other hand, exercise more critical judgment and discernment, as only 26% of them trust the media.

Among Independents, which are often swing voter, only 31% trust the mass media.

So American bloggers should feel empowered to make a difference in this last month of the election.
