Tomorrow is a big day for “Social Justice” in Canada

Last week the CCCB told us that they were setting up a Standing Committee to deal with the Development & Peace abortion scandal. Remember, folks, this is a full year after the “Ad Hoc Committee” was set up to deal with the same issue, and almost two years since the first unassailable evidence was disclosed, despite the astounding whitewash reporting from the Catholic lapdog press.

For everyone who is tracking out there, it’s like this:  the Standing Committee of the Ad Hoc Committee of the Plenary Assembly of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops is going to tell us what they are going to do!  Boy, I bet you all out there can’t wait, huh?  The Bishops told us in their earlier media release last Friday, that…

A more detailed report containing further information on the work of the Ad Hoc Committee and the duties of the new Standing Committee will be released before the end of next week. (Source)

They are not actually going to stop the pro-abort money from flowing. They are just going to figure out what this Committee is supposed to do and what duties each member is supposed to have.  That might very well mean yet another year of reflection, recycling and renewal until the next Plenary Assembly in October, 2011.  At that time, the Standing Committee will establish a “Steering Committee” to help guide the reflection and the recycling of the Standing Committee of the Ad Hoc Committee of the Plenary Assembly of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.  That should satisfy all of the critics out there that <hurumph> things are really moving along.

Tomorrow is Friday.  We’ll be looking for this “detailed report” on the CCCB’s website.

Despite my cynicism, I’m still a useful idiot at heart.  I still trust the bishops to eventually do the right thing.  I have a faint hope that things will start to get addressed in a real and substantial way.  I’m sure that many Socon or Bust readers feel the same way.

We really do hope the bishops do not botch this up again.  Every botch-up means their credibility is further eroded.  And no one really wants that.  But there are consequences to cowardice, treachery, and negligence.

Bishops!  Wake up and realize what it is at stake!  In the name of all that is decent, do something!
