As you know for the next two weeks political leaders, scientists and some business representatives are gathering in Copenhagen to discuss the issue of “man-made global warming” and hammer out an agreement to do something about it. In the end it will mean increased taxes and new financial penalties, more government regulations, and greater restrictions on the general populace – especially the middle class. For decades citizens in the West have been weakening the intermediary institutions (church, family, guilds/unions, etc) and turning power over to the state (the state having presented itself as the guarding of “individual freedom”). And if the history of the West since the French Revolution teaches anything it is the tendency of the unrestricted modern state toward totalitarianism and social engineering.
Here is a good opinion piece from the Wall Street Journal spelling out aspects of the totalitarian mentality and methods.
