Venezuelan hierarchy rattled by break-in at bishops’ offices
Bishop Jesus Gonzalez Zarate, the secretary-general of the Venezuelan bishops’ conference, says that Church leaders are dealing with a “climate of insecurity” after an April 14 break-in at offices of the episcopal conference. The intruders took nothing of value, but ransacked files. Church officials said that they had not determined the motivation for the crime, but the Venezuelan bishops have been the target of attacks by supporters of President Hugo Chavez, a harsh critic of the hierarchy.
Bolivian cardinal’s home bombed
A bomb blast on April 15 caused some property damage at the home of Cardinal Julio Terrazas Sandoval of Santa Cruz, Bolivia. No one was hurt in the explosion; the cardinal was not at home at the time. No motive for the bombing has been established. The cardinal and other Bolivian bishops have clashed frequently with leftist President Evo Morales, prompting some Morales supporters to threaten members of the hierarchy.
Statue of Blessed Mother decapitated in California
A statue of the Blessed Mother outside St. Monica Church in Santa Monica, California, was beheaded in the early hours of Easter morning. Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
Don’t you get it? It’s all about being tolerant and inclusive with threats, intimidation, and violence. This is becoming so commonplace among the Left that it is hardly a debatable point any more. Are we not heading towards a civil war?
