The CHRC & The Liberals: The Biggest Joke of All

A Canadian stand-up comedian will face a human rights tribunal hearing after a woman complained she and her friends faced a “tirade of homophobic and sexist comments” while attending one of his shows. In a decision released this week, the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal ruled there is enough evidence to hear the case of Vancouver woman Lorna Pardy against Toronto comedian Guy Earle. Zesty’s Restaurant in Vancouver, where the May 22, 2007, show took place, was also named in the complaint. The restaurant has since closed…. “Two of them started making out, flipping me the bird and saying I hated lesbians,” he said.Earle was reluctant to repeat the remarks that led to the human rights complaint.”Everybody wants to know what I said, and I invite people to come see me on stage because you can’t take it out of context. And that’s exactly what’s happened here.

“You just change one little verb and you take it out of context and all of a sudden it’s time for me to drink a glass of hemlock,” he said. “They were drunk, they were being jerks and I was very rude and visceral to them because, like I said, if you have a heckler, what you want to do is put them in their place by offending them, so I tried to hit them where it hurts and the only thing I had to key on was the fact that they were lesbians.

“I don’t care if they’re lesbians, heterosexuals, homosexuals or giraffes.”

Earle said the complaint is an attack on comedians’ right to perform.

This is for real. It really is.  But I can hardly believe it.  I’m just soiling myself with glee.

It’s not that I don’t think the HRCs wouldn’t have the arrogance to hear this case; it’s just that I simply cannot fathom how even more absurd and ridiculous this is going to make them look – as if that were even possible.  The positive side is that, at least at that Tribunal hearing, there might be a few more laughs now that the clowns are going after the comedians.  I think it’s fitting that such a “tribunal” is all about laughs and jokes since Canada has become an international laughing-stock.

But do you know what the great thing about this whole thing is?

The respondent and complainants are (almost certainly) liberal.  Throw in the Kiddie Kourt and that makes it a totally liberal affair.

Now that the chickens have come home to roost, let’s see if the Left is so quick to jump to the defenses of the Star Chambers.

O Glorious Day!  I thought you’d be much further off, but you have deigned to arrive early!

  1. Only the comedian and restaurant were charged? What about all the other patrons? Surely they laughed a Earl’s jokes – isn’t that a hate crime in Canada too?

  2. Personally, I find most stand up comedians to be very offensive. That’s why I don’t go to their performances and I have the human right to avoid them. If by some accident of fate I should find myself at one, I can exercise the human right to yell back or stomp out of the performance.

This inanity of the BCHRT will probably be what it takes to get me to have sympathy for stand up comedians.
