Mr. Muzzle lectures Putin on Democracy

“President Putin pointed out to me, didn’t hesitate to point out to me that there’s various reports… that Canada is sometimes criticized on some human rights and democratic issues from time to time,” Harper told reporters after meeting Putin at this Baltic Sea resort, where G8 leaders have gathered for their annual summit.

“And really my reply to that general line of discussion is that that’s fine as long as we all accept the legitimacy of that criticism, we’re all prepared to listen to it and be open to it and allow that kind of debate to occur in our societies. That’s the real test, not whether we’re perfect but whether criticism can happen, and is tolerated and is part of the political process.”

But the prime minister also echoed the view, put forward by U.S. President George W. Bush this week, that the progress of democratic reforms in Russia has been derailed.

“We are concerned about what we see, some of the sliding back from democratic norms that we have witnessed,” Harper said.

Cough Cough. Excuse me while I get over choking on my food.

Is this the same guy who has muzzled his pro-life MPs from bringing forward benign legislation on abortion?

…we’re all prepared to listen to it and be open to it and allow that kind of debate to occur in our societies. That’s the real test…

If that’s the real test, Mr. Harper, then you’ve received an “F”.

Mr. Muzzle should not go around the world looking to remove the specks from other people’s eyes when he’s got major vision problems of his own.

His comments certainly signify a rich irony as he stands as the biggest political impediment against the greatest civil rights struggle of all time for this country: the right to life and the end to the barbarism of abortion.
