“Nobody believes the story of Sodom refers to consensual homosexuality any more and Jesus never mentions the subject. He does, however, repeatedly condemn judging others and – oh yes divorce. Quite a lot of both in Christian circles these days. (St) Paul’s writing may well refer to the use of young boys by adult heterosexual men and not adult, gay partnerships. Thing is, we need to discuss all this and not just smugly point fingers.” (Source)
Seriously. No, really. He said that. That’s from his Facebook page today, plugging his article “I was wrong”. Nobody believes the story of Sodom refers to consensual homosexuality? Uh, your Church does, Michael. In fact, no serious theologian before the sexual revolution thought or wrote otherwise. “Nobody believes, nobody believes”? What is this, some kind of massive fraud that you are trying to perpetrate, Michael? This is so sad, but the alarm bells have been sounding for some time about Mr. Coren. I think this fire drill clears out the building. I don’t think Mike quite gets it: STERILIZED SEX IS CONDEMNED IN THE BIBLE IN ALL ITS FORMS. That’s why Mr. Coren won’t answer my question about Humanae Vitae. He won’t do it, because his jig would be up. The problem with giving Michael Coren a Catholic megaphone is that he doesn’t know what the hell he is talking about. Please don’t help spread his errors in the Catholic community.
p.s. Under Coren’s rubric of St. Paul condemning heterosexual rape of boys, I guess the only orientation on the outs are the bi-sexuals, for all intents and purposes. Or, perhaps, heterosexuals who rape boys should have their own orientation too. After all, we wouldn’t want to discriminate, would we? Mr. Coren’s view of sexual sin simply consists in ensuring that all parties consent…then there’s no problem. But that is hardly the Catholic view…because GOD does not consent.
