When I was a kid, my cousins and our families use to go to a public park with a beach. There was this little island about 100 meters away that we would swim to. It must have been about 4ft by 4ft. We called it “piggy, piggy” island. I have no idea why. I’ve just always remembered that stupid name.
Last Sunday at LifeChain, the weather wasn’t that great, but we had a really good turn out for the event. It was cold and rainy, but that did not dampen spirits. Every year we make more progress. Every year, we get more support. Little by little, inch by inch, we’re winning hearts and minds.
This year I was not in my normal spot. I decided to take another location in the Chain, near the exit which is located near the intersection. I was there about 20 minutes when one of the participants suggested I go across the street to join other people in a less populated area. “Good idea”, I thought. “I think I will.” So I started to cross the road and ended up on one of those traffic islands where you press the “walk” button to get to the other side…except I didn’t make it over. I just stood there and said to myself, “I think I’m going to stay here.” And boy was it a great location. I got maximum coverage in all directions. When the traffic light turned red in one direction, I would turn slightly and get the traffic going the other way. I had a rain coat on, but I didn’t have anything over my head to protect myself from the frigid rain. It was not a pleasant experience but neither is abortion. So if I have to stand on piggy, piggy island a thousand times for the next thousand years, come Lord Jesus, let it be!
