Keep the Pressure On

Greetings everyone,

Some time ago, you were concerned enough to sign the petition against the Human Rights Commissions which are currently attacking Canadian citizens’ right to free speech. I encourage you to keep reminding your friends, family, and acquaintances to sign the petition. It is imperative that we remain vigilent in the protection of our inalienable rights as free-born Canadians.

As you may or may not know, there has been a private members’ motion to gut the most objectionable section of the Canadian Human Rights Act.

The purpose of this email is to encourage you to e-mail Dr. Keith Martin, M.P., the author of the motion, and thank him for coming to our defense at a critical time in our nation’s history.  It is also imperative that you WRITE A LETTER (not e-mail) to your local M.P. and M.P.P., expressing your firm objection to the attacks of the HRCs on free speech.  Please also consider writing two more letters: to Rob Nicholson, Minister of Justice and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Your time and the cost of a few stamps are what is required at this time to keep the pressure on.

Free speech may be free but its protection is not.

Best regards,

John Pacheco

I am appalled that my freedoms have come down to this. My father fought in the second world war. I have many times witnessed him reminding people that thank him for his service, “you have lost more freedoms than before I went to fight.” Today these words sadly have more meaning than ever. How sad that we are letting our country down but more importantly our veterans down with these deplorable HR Commissions.

The Human Rights Commissions, as exemplified recently in Canda, are acting as a form of mind control against innocent media agents. This curtails 600 years of common law and human rights, rather than defending human rights.

The guy with the biggest mouth wins? Wrong. As is, there is no freedom in Canada, and in fact, North America. “Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.” – Benjamin Franklin

Animal Farm is upon us. What is black may not be called black as it may offend someone; rather it must be called white. To allow the politics of feelings to supersede rational arguments in public discourse is an amazingly regressive turn-around at this late stage of human evolution.

As the ligature of censorship pulls tighter and tighter around freedom of speech I am becoming not only ashamed but also fearful of the country in which I grew up, a country of which I was once immensely proud. What a sad commentary.

Born and raised under a communist regime, I’m very sensitive to the issue of free speech. People of Canada, free speech is the most precious asset! Hold it close to your chest, cherish it, fight for it!

Born in the Netherlands, I am following the political/religious climate in Europe with great interest. From what I have learned over the years via newspapers, family and friends, as well as books such “Infidel” by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, one only comes to realize the need to be very, very concerned about official responses to the extreme sensitivity of a vast growing Muslim population easily fired up by its leaders. How Canada should learn from the mistakes Europe has made and now greatly regrets.

Canada now resembles to me the communist country from where I escaped 25 years ago! I only wish that the Canadians who value true freedom would finally wake up and fight back before it’s too late!!

Damned it! Did I immigrate to China from China?? If not for freedom, I should stay there to make much more money as successful engineering contractor, rather than beginning everything from zero here in Canada. I`ll try to move to the States if freedom is not available here!

First rate Canadians have died for these basic democratic rights, why are second rate institutions being allowed to take them away from us?

Freedom is the only thing that can hold this country together. Victimary politics is no longer intellectually or socially productive, if it once was. Politicians should catch up with our real intellectual and cultural leaders.

Free Canadians are not oppressive in any serious way. Governments must help preserve Canadians’ freedom, and not shun democratic responsibilities by deferring to phony courts and victim religions. Reform the HRCs for real apolitical victims, not Gnostic thought crimes.

How can it be that I find myself uneasy filling out this petition, for fear that someone will come after me. Truly freedom to speak has been lost in this country. But I force myself to sign, knowing that if we don’t fight now, our children may not have a chance for the same freedoms we take for granted. For my children.

HRC existence and activities remainds me the time when I lived in communist Poland.

I am floored by how the Human Rights Commission is encroaching upon the very thing they are there to protect. Human Rights. I personally know an employee who told me of the demographics of the employees of the Human Rights Commission, and their political leanings. The HRC is anything but representative of the demographic and diversity of Canada.

There is a disproportionate of same sex oriented employees, a disproportionate number of anti Christian, secular fundamentalists.

I am old enough that I probably won’t experience full force the negative effects of the abuses by the CHRC but my children and grandchildren will. It concerns me deeply to see the way our country is going down the tubes.

I am tired of all the power hungry human rights bleeding hearts. It is time we take Canada back to where we were free to be Canadians and not something else.

I generally do not sign petitions of any kind, but I feel compelled to in this case by the outrage of various HRCs harrassing and penalizing free-born Canadians for expressing their opinions — whether controversial or otherwise. I implore Prime Minister Harper to come down strongly on the side of freedom of conscience and of speech.

I lived my youth in the wrong side of the Iron Curtain. I do hope I won’t have to live my adulthood in wrong side again.

I love Canada’s historic defence of freedom. Please, do not shame that history and the sacrifice of so many Canadians with this attack on free speech. – An American citizen.

Kangaroo courts are for loser countries.

Keep free speech, FREE.

Mark Steyn tells the uncomfortable truth and you want to silence him? You should be ashamed of yourselves. Pandering to the Islamics only strengthens their resolve to Islamise Canada. You should be siding Mark Steyn, not seeking to silence him.

Mr. Prime Minister, Our party must guarantee elimination of the HRC’s in the next election, restore free speach, and stop the multicultural decay of Canada. We need our party to stand up for our freedoms of expression and get back to traditional Canadian values. We need a party that will do everything in it’s power to eliminate the threat from the socialists and communsts who continue to deprive Canadians of free speach, and eliminate our traditional Canadian values.

My family came from England to Nova Scotia in the 1860s. Part of us moved to the US – the remainder stayed in Canada. I visit my relatives in Edmonton every year. We are ALL HORRIFIED at the dhimmification of Canada. This persecution of Mark is beyond the pale. Will Canadians please COME TO THEIR SENSES and stop this total nonsense. Freedom of speech is not a catchphrase. PROTECT IT.

My family has been in Canada since 1790. I hope that my posterity will be able to enjoy as free and good a country as my ancestors have.

My forefathers fought in Canada’s wars in defense of tyranny. These HRC’s are a repugnant affront to the sacrifices that these men and other Canadians made to protect our values and way of life. It’s time to shrug off the yoke of political correctness and abolish or severely limit the ridiculous mandate given to the HRC’s. I do not recognize their legality nor accept their presence in our society.

My opinions are my own, made of my own free will. Nobody shall hold any power over me. These freedoms were hard won by members of my family in every conflict this country has faced since before Confederation, and I shall not betray that trust. I will be a free man, and I shall teach my children to be free as well, in thought as well as in action. Only cowards gang up on an ideal they find inconvenient to live up to.

My parents came to this country to escape a totalitarian regime. HRC’s are as bad as any kangaroo court in the former USSR and should be eliminated immediately. Any politicians that were responsible for their creation should be brought up on criminal charges.

My Private Member’s Bill 208 (2006) in the Alberta Legislature was intended to protect the rights of Canadians to publicly criticize and disagree with government policies–in this case, same-sex marriage–without fear of being hauled before the Alberta human rights commission.

  1. I want to express my heartfelt thanks to whoever wrote this article. You couldn’t have said it any better and I hope and pray that Canadians will get off their duffs and stand up to the HRC before it’s too late!

  2. I contacted my conservative MP regarding this issue and got absolutely no response. I was shocked to see that a Liberal MP would put forth this bill where Conservatives haven’t touched it.
PS Keep up the good work @ catholic-legate.com!

  3. I think this is the first step to uniting Canada again instead of polarizing us
thing is in a way I am glad it is a Liberal doing this. Because if it were a Conservative: the Media would have twisted it around to try and make them look bad. may I also recommend that we contact CTV news: not CBC because we know where they stand. and get them to speak out on this issue to. I do know though if the cons spoke out about this they would be deemed as scary and a racist that the Alliance side is comming out.
I mean Ted white talked about this issue along time ago when he wanted to change the charter of rights and update it. but everyone was stupid enough to Beleive the Liberals and the news media. calling them Racist
Gee I wonder what there thinking now that a liberal has done it. I am all for writing leters in support of Human Rites. But remember don’t jump the gun when someone talks about a wedge issue next time and deem them scary. thanks for writing the letter and this e-mail

Please keep it honest, Socon. Don’t make things up, and don’t edit what id sent in. There’s no need to. The stupidity on the other side is there gor all to see. Let thembury themselves. They don’t need any help and you discredit their stupidity by publishing such weak, if not made up, trash.

  7. Dear John,

I am one of the more recent publishers in Canada who has had a complaint laid against them by the Canadian Human Rights Commission. My ultimatum to “Respond” to the said complaint arrived in my mailbox on November 20, 2007. I reside in the province of B.C.

Unlike the cases of Levant and Steyn who are both Jews and the complainant is a Muslim, my complainants, Harry Abrams, B.C. representative for the League for Human Rights of B’nai Brith Canada and “the League” are both Zionist Jews and I am a baptized Christian.

In my case the complainants are contending that I and my website http://www.radicalpress.com are promoting “ongoing hatred affecting persons identifiable as Jews and/or as citizens of Israel”. Their allegations are based upon the many articles which I publish that are critical of political Zionism and the Israeli state.

Prior to writing my “Response” I asked the CHRC “hate-crimes” Investigator Ms. Sandy Kozak, for a definition of “hate” which the CHRC uses in such cases. I am posting her reply here for the benefit of anyone who wishes to understand the context within which this semi-judicial organization operates and how they view this controversial term.

    Mr. Topham,

In response to your email of 28 November 2007, the following information should answer the questions you posed about the meaning of ‘hate’ and our investigation of these types of complaints. Further, I would recommend that you submit a full response to the allegations initially, however, further information can be submitted later if necessary.

The investigation will examine whether there is support for the complainant’s allegation of hate on the internet by considering:

    i. whether the material which forms the basis of the complaint was observed on the Internet;

    ii. whether the communication of the material has at least partially taken place in Canada;

iii. whether the material is likely to expose a person or persons to hatred or contempt based on characteristic(s) based upon a prohibited ground(s)

iv. whether the Respondent communicated or caused to be communicated the material which forms the basis of the complaint.

What constitutes “hatred” is not defined in the Canadian Human Rights Act. It is a question of fact. It is generally accepted to refer to extreme ill-will and is an emotion which allows for “no redeeming qualities” in the person at whom it is directed. “Contempt” is similarly extreme and includes circumstances in which the object of one’s feelings is looked down upon, belittled, despised, dishonored or disgraced.

    Sincerely,

    Sandy Kozak
    Investigator
    Canadian Human Rights Commission

  8. A-HRC charges and penalties were recently brought to light due to charging a western magazine for publishing political cartoons.

There was no Canadian law prohibiting the publishing of said cartoons.

Yet the publisher was brought in for intense questioning by the Alberta Human Rights commission. Was that questioning an effort to discover hateful thinking? No Canadian law applies to personal thinking.

There have been several A-HRC multi-thousand dollar awards made to one party, [ A Lawyer], who complained of suffering hurt feelings due to published opinion.

One could naturally suspect there may be an arrangement between said lawyer and the HRC. I personally do not know, yet it does seem wrong that a government agency can penalize Canadians in secret proceedings with no exposure to our open courts.

Because the magazine publisher insisted in fairness that A-HRC questioning be video recorded, this apparent short-circuit of justice is finally coming into public view.

Human rights are paramount in Canada. Somehow when several multi-thousand dollar awards go to one lawyer, there seems to be a need for public review. =- TG

  9. Human Rights Commission? What a mockery.

These government flunkies don’t have a clue of how the real world works. And that lofty title, “Investigator” self-branded on some of these flunkies shows you how narcissistic they’ve become. They truly believe in their little world that they’re actually “investigating”. It’s more like harassment.

Our family had been abused by our BC HRC – by their attempts to support a phoney complainant.

After creating heartaches – conrtibuting to the demise of our small mom and pop shop, and the death of our loving dad … we’ve still not received an apology for their stupidity and harassment. What is even more telling is how the BCHRC conveniently overlooked (covered up?) their own racist slip ups made by one of their own during the “investigator’s” efforts to twist her story into something they felt favourable. And did we cry “Racism!?” No. We did not scrape down to their low level.

All I can say is that the sooner we rid ourselves of these holier than thou witch hunters, the better our Canada will be.

It is so sad to see how pathetic our great Nation has slithered down to…

People are sick and tired of watching and phrasing every word for fear of offending some thin skinned opportunist waiting to shout “victim!”

And no thanks to their myopic interpretation of “fairness”… the Human Wrongs commission probably triggered me to start up my blog – the Ugly Chinese Canadian.

  10. In general,

    1. I cannot help you if you do not let me SAVE AS your e-mail into my Documents.

    2. You should make it possible for us to know the number of respondent and what their comments were.

    Wolfgang

  11. I’m from the States, so there is little I can do that will be of real help. But know that I am in solidarity with you on this issue. I have been appalled at what your government has done. May God bless your efforts.
