This would be a classic moment worth preserving on video or audio for posterity.

OTTAWA (CCN)–Joliette Bishop Gilles Lussier could soon be in court answering questions concerning the defamation lawsuit brought by Joliette priest Father Raymond Gravel against LifeSiteNews (LSN) and Campagne Quebec-Vie, (CQV), a pro-life organization. (Source)
I hope the lawyers for LifeSiteNews play their cards right. Once Bishop Lussier is on the stand, the lawyers should find a way to ask him about his positions on the controversial issues surrounding Fr. Gravel, such as abortion and homosexuality.
- If he testifies that such acts are against Church teaching, then he’s undermining Fr. Gravel’s suit.
- If he testifies that such acts are okay, he’ll be getting a phone call from Rome, not to mention an infinity of references in blog posts for the next 10 years. Depending on what he says, he could make himself into an instant heretic.
Testifying in court is not like a media scrum. You can’t duck the questions or give vague answers. And everything is scrupulously recorded by the typist for posterity.
It’s about time we see some accountability. It’s a testimony to God’s omnipotence that He can arrange for a secular judge in a secular court to execute justice where bishops failed at their duty. Divine irony. Praise be to God.
I wish I could be there.
