Globe & Mail – Not So Interested in the Facts About Abortion

From a reader…

See below for a letter Ian Gentles sent last week to the Globe and Mail but which the Globe and Mail did not publish. As far as I know, there have been no letters published in the Globe and Mail in response to last week’s article about a report coming out of the Royal College of Psychiatrists claiming that abortion has no negative impact on women’s mental health.¬†

 Dear Sir/Madam,

The study purporting to show that women who have abortions do not suffer a higher risk of mental illness (Globe Life, Dec. 9, 2011) flies in the face of much recent research. Just in September the British Journal of Psychiatry published a large meta-study that systematically contradicts the Kendall study referred to in your article. It found that women who have abortions are 81 per cent more likely to experience subsequent mental health problems. The greatest increases were seen in relation to suicidal behaviors and substance abuse. Women with a history of abortion face higher rates of anxiety (34 per cent higher) and depression (37 per cent higher), alcohol use (110 per cent higher), and suicidal behavior (155 per cent higher). By contrast women who delivered rather than aborting an unplanned pregnancy were significantly less likely to have mental health problems. Women with a history of abortion were 55 per cent more likely to have mental health problems than women who did not abort an unplanned pregnancy. The study also estimated that up to 10 per cent of mental health problems among all women might be attributable to abortion. These findings are borne out by Canadian research. A study sponsored by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario in 2001 discovered a five-times higher rate of hospitalization for psychiatric problems among women who had abortions within the previous three months than the control group. The de Veber Institute for Bioethics in Toronto will shortly be publishing a study based on interviews with 106 women who experienced one or more abortions. Every one of the women expressed regret over the abortion and stated that she would advise other women faced with an unplanned pregnancy not to have an abortion.

Yours sincerely,

Ian Gentles,

Research Director de Veber Institute for Bioethics

  1. At The Nuremberg War Crimes Trials ten Nazi leaders were indicted for “encouraging and compelling abortions, which the court considered crimes against humanity.” After 1962 Engel vs Vitale the court sided with the atheists as did the governments, popular media and education establishments of the West. Prayer was taken out of schools, The Ten Commandments were taken out of schoolrooms, courtrooms, and a new worldview was imposed. In the guise of Separation Of Church and State, Christianity was taken out of Government,Law, and Education, and thus meaningful Christianity out of society. Christianity is taught as the root of the worlds problems. Without The Christian Worldview the west started to teach the tenets of Politically Correct Relativism, where all cultures can meld their worldviews, and live happily together in compromise. They also started to teach the love without meaning of (Kinsey Sex Education) and the murder without guilt (Abortion) being a good. When perversions are taught to children from Kindergarten, what kind of democratic society does that produce? What kind of popular media thrives in a society like this? I hope our citizens change their worldview and see there is a Culture War doing on,and that they have been AWOL. False Christianity is Nicolaitanism and does not help anyone. It only makes maters worse with all the phonies running around with legions of their followers. If this does not change matters will become worse. There is no worldview that is more benevolent and beneficial than true Christianity.

  2. The only way to deal with these private business controlling the information flow is to stop buying their publications. Should we be supporting businesses which cover up crimes against humanity? We’ve been so conditioned to believe that we need up-to-date info on everything, all the time. Can you imagine? Sounds like an addiction to me. The reality is that when we cancel useless TV and print subscriptions, we are free to get reliable info on an as-needed (not as-addicted/as-distracted) basis.

  3. In Democratic Sodom, most citizens even most of the so-called Christian Priests love their addictions more than they love Christ. Otherwise Canada would still be a Christian Nation in Government, Law and Education with benefits and benevolence eventually being Legislated to the good of all, according to inalienable human rights bestowed by our Creator,in Genesis 1:27. The manipulation of science and law by Our Government,Courts and Education Establishments, prevented Darwin’s so called lower races for having human rights even to vote in Canada until 1947,and Native Indians in 1960. In a democracy the citizens use their volition any why they choose, and the majority have decided they prefer to live in Sodom. This sets precedents for more anguish to come by establishment. Very few seem to care, that is why they have been AWOL as the Culture War has that been raging around them. There are still a few good men and women who do not make the world worse. Blessings to you Merry Christmas and Happy Holy Days.
