PART 1 – OPENING STATEMENT – Ezra jackboots the HRCs:
In other words, the commission is a joke – it’s the Alberta equivalent of a U.S. television pseudo-court like Judge Judy – except that Judge Judy actually was a judge, whereas none of the commission’s panellists are judges, and some aren’t even lawyers. And, unlike the commission, Judge Judy believes in freedom of speech.
Unlike real courts, there is no way to apply for a dismissal of nuisance lawsuits. Common law rules of evidence don’t apply. Rules of court don’t apply. It is a system that is part Kafka, and part Stalin. Even this interrogation today – at which I appear under duress – saw the commission tell me who I could or could not bring with me as my counsel and advisors.I have no faith in this farcical commission. But I do have faith in the justice and good sense of my fellow Albertans and Canadians. I believe that the better they understand this case, the more shocked they will be. I am here under your compulsion to answer the commission’s questions. But it is not I who am on trial: it is the freedom of all Canadians.
PART 2 – WHAT IS YOUR INTENT? – Ezra goes for the jugular:
We published those cartoons for the intent and purpose of exercising our inalienable rights as free born Albertans to publish whatever the hell we want no matter whatever the hell you think. (1:41-1:58)
I have probably given over 200 interviews with people other than the State where I give a very thoughtful and nuanced expression of my intent, but the only thing I owe to the government about why I published it is: “it’s my bloody right to do so.” (2:00-2:15)
PART 3 – THE REAL VIOLENCE IN EDMONTON – Hatred brought on themselves by their conduct:
It’s radical Muslims who blow things up, who torch my Synagogue, who file nuissance lawsuits. They are the ones who make people hate Muslims. (1:15-1:27)
PART 4 – I DON’T ANSWER TO THE STATE – The Thugs at the HRC:
I do not seek to be excused from this complaint because I meet your test of reasonableness or Laurie Andreachuck, the thug from Lethbridge who convicted a Christian pastor for having Christian views. She’s a thug. You’re a thug. Your whole company is a thug. I do not seek to convince you because to do so means that I grant you some moral authority. (0:40 – 1:05)
PART 5 – YOU’RE ENTITLED TO YOUR OPINIONS – …provided you pay our fine:
Ezra: How ironic that something calling itself the “human rights commission” is the one corroding those rights.
Interrogator: You’re entitled to your opinions. That’s for sure.
Ezra: Uh…I wish that were a fact. (0:25-0:39)
PART 6 – THE LIMITS OF FREE SPEECH – time for an education in freedom
Because they could express themselves through words, they didn’t have to express themselves through violence…Part of the reason that hell holes like that are so violent is because they don’t have peaceful ways to vent ideas. (2:34-2:55)
I put it to you that unbriddled political speech is not just allowed but it is the antedote, the prophylactic, against violence. (3:10-3:21)
Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo, the most heinous criminals in this country…convicted mass murderers…the State cannot order them to apologize. It’s cruel and unusual punishment [to do so]…People know they wouldn’t mean it…A convicted murderer cannot be ordered to apologize but a convicted publisher can be ordered by the State to apologize. I’ll rot in hell before I use my mouth to say that fascist’s words with you as his instrument to compel me to do so. (4:36-5:16)
PART 7 – VIOLATING THEIR OWN POLICIES – but they do acquit from time to time, slave!
Ezra: That’s the human rights commission. It wasn’t Ms. Andreachuk. She wasn’t speaking for herself. She was speaking with the hammer of the State.
InTerrorgator: Our process can end at the report…If I issue a dismissal report that might be the end.
Ezra: It might be or [in the case of] Rev. Boisson, a Christian pastor who was convicted…you’re unbelievable. (2:54-3:20)
PART 8 – CLOSING COMMENTS – Game, Set and Match
It is my hope that this mattter is not dismissed. It is my hope that this complaint is accepted, that it goes to a hearing, and I happen to appear before the most fascist of the panelists – some thug down in Lethbridge named Laurie Andreachuk. I hope that I appear in front of her. I hope she is having a particularly angry day. I hope she hears every word of this, and I called her a ‘thug’, and I hope that she “convicts” me and “sentences” me to this apology that this fascist from Saudi Arabia demands of me because then I will take this junk out of the human rights commission and into real courts where 800 years of common law and the charter of rights and the bill of rights will come to my aid. (2:38-3:26)
