A letter sent to the CBC’s ombudsman from a concerned citizen ….
This morning CBC radio (1 & 2) repeatedly EMPHASISED in its coverage of Keith Martin, Liberal MP, and his private member`s Bill 446 that:
WHITE SUPREMICIST GROUPS ARE OPPOSING HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSIONS…in order (apparently) to damn this initiative.
(It was not even suggested that there were any other opponents of the HRCs).
Any informed news reporter should be well aware that MANY democratically inclined Canadians representing ALL shades of opinion and conviction have for some time been appalled by the thought-control and intimidation exercised by the HRCs. (It was not even suggested that there were other opponents of the HRCs).
To label or even imply support of Bill 446 as necessarily being indicative of RACISM is to slant news coverage, and to tar all supporters of this legitimate legislative proposal with the Racism smear.
CBC too often clumsily shows is ideological left-wing bent. An apology for this imbalance, in this, case and a revised news release should be demanded and forthcoming ASAP.
Also, the Ombudsman should strongly indicate that fairness and balance are always to be expected in such instances, from a pubicly funded organization.
