Christian dad fighting for parental rights smeared in local press

HAMILTON, Ontario, September 17, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Hamilton-area Christian father who is suing the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board after the board refused his repeated requests over two years to withdraw his children from classes dealing with homosexuality and other sensitive issues, is coming under attack from the local newspaper, The Spectator.

Dr. Steve Tourloukis, the man behind the lawsuit, which seeks to ensure that he is notified before controversial subjects are discussed in class, is a dentist, a member of the Greek Orthodox Church, and has a daughter in grade one and a son in grade four.

In an editorial published September 13, The Spectator’s Managing Editor, Howard Elliott, called Dr. Tourloukis’ legal action “distasteful,” “impractical,” and “downright sinister.”

The paper also published a cartoon by Graeme MacKay with the editorial that portrayed a caricature of Dr. Tourloukis drowning in an accumulation of the word “hate.”

Another version of the Spectator editorial was published by the affiliated Winnipeg Free Press alongside a grotesque cartoon of Dr. Tourloukis by Dale Cummings.

In a move that one pro-life leader called a breach of journalistic ethics and that was condemned by Tourloukis himself, Carmela Fragomeni of The Spectator named the school that Dr. Tourloukis’ children attend.

Jack Fonseca of Campaign Life Catholics expressed concerns that the decision could open the children up to harassment, saying, “The Spectator crossed the line of journalistic ethics by publishing the name of his children’s elementary school. This should make every parent angry.”…(Source)

You know, back in 2003 at a marriage rally I helped organize on Parliament Hill (not the one in 2005, but an earlier one), I got into a discussion with a liberal reporter. He asked me how same-sex “marriage” affected me.  I told him, “education”.  And then went on to explain how Gay Activists will use same-sex “marriage” to force their agenda on the schools and on our children.   I’ll never forget his response:  a blank stare.

Nine years later, we’re right on track.  I’d like to say that I am surprised at the speed at which this has come about, but I am not really that surprised.  And I don’t think any of you are, either.

I’d like to rally the troops here, and organize some kind of rally for him, but I just don’t have the energy anymore, although I do hope someone does it to raise some money for this Christian father.

You see, the first group that I would normally look to for support in organizing something like this are the Catholic Bishops of this province.  But considering how they sold out on Bill C-13, I don’t see much of a reason for hope in that area, since Dalton McGuinty, that devout Catholic communicant of the Archdiocese of Ottawa, and his Rainbow Ministry of Education all but owns them now — which of course makes one wonder what kind of dirt the government has on our bishops to keep them quiet.

It really is an amazing thing to watch these bishops act in such a way which is completely removed to the realities of how Christian families are being persecuted.  They’ll issue their lamentations in press releases, but ask them to lift a finger in a practical way and actually risk something?  You can forget it – unless, of course, it’s social justice, then the bank vaults open.

The proverbial “ivory tower” doesn’t even come close to describing this situation.  At least when politicians make decisions, they are held accountable by the electorate.  What happens in the Catholic Church when Bishops tell their flock to “eat cake” when it concerns educating our children in the Catholic faith and keeping them away from the sexual perverts who seek to ravage our children?  Where is the accountability there?

Write the Nuncio. Write the Vatican. Write the Pope.  How’s that working for us?

I don’t get it. How do these men think that their pastoral authority and even their Office which they have a sworn duty to uphold is not denigrated by their constant betrayals?

There is a consequence to them and their pastoral authority.  There has to be.

The bishops have become to the Faithful what a marriage based on contraception is to a couple — a legal arrangement on paper, but devoid of any real substance or meaning.

  1. What is STB? I think it is a minor seminary degree. Did Mr. Voris start out for the priesthood and then change his mind? Don’t blame him…I have a useless master’s in Latin American Studies which I have never used.
