Chaput – “Confusion is of the devil”

Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput says he was “very disturbed” by the debate over church teachings on gays and remarried Catholics at this month’s Vatican summit, saying it sent a confusing message, and “confusion is of the devil.” In a lecture delivered Monday evening in Manhattan, Chaput also suggested that in the wake of the rapid series of court decisions legalizing same-sex marriage in more than 30 states, Catholic priests might consider opting out of certifying civil marriages as a sign of “principled resistance.” Chaput is expected to host Pope Francis in Philadelphia in September 2015 for a global World Meeting of Families, and his criticisms tracked complaints by other conservatives who were upset with Francis for encouraging a freewheeling discussion among the 190 cardinals and bishops at the Vatican’s two-week Synod of Bishops on the family. Indeed it is. And who is sponsoring this confusion?  Frankly, what should be happening now is the whole Synod should be cancelled. There’s no way to go but down.  All of the bishops should be required to sign Familaris Consortio and that’s the end of it.

  1. “Confusion is of the devil”…………now I know why Chaput used this phrase. Because it is an apt description of his administration and leadership down there in Center City Philadelphia at 222 N.17th St.,
Our Philadelphia religious leader is certainly not “confused like the devil” when he trudges to Harrisburg in order to lobby AGAINST legislative proposals that would provide better protection and legal redress for past and future victims of child sexual abuse, regardless of the venue where the alleged incidents occur.

“A man sees what he wants to see and disregards the rest.” Of course such a statement aligns perfectly with Archbishop Chaput’s pronouncement..

This is the same RCC leader who concurred with the Denver’s pastor decision to block admission for two young school children to the Catholic elementary school because the parents were lesbian. Sad, so sad, to deny our youngest access to our Catholic faith.
