The Catholic school association’s video comes at a time when all school systems are working toward another round of teacher negotiations. Ontario houses four distinct publicly funded systems – francophone public, francophone Catholic, English Catholic and English public – and competition for students is fierce, especially as birth rates decline.
Indeed, and we are all starting to wonder what kind of Catholic identity there is in the Catholic School Board. When you are not forming *Catholic* students, then, really, what is the point exactly? I think the pseudo Catholic trustees can read the writing on the wall. They know that unless they do something to distinguish themselves from the Public board, their number is up…but the problem is they are becoming more and more like the Public Board….so the natural question arises. “We Day” is not going to save the system.
