Abortion: Never A Good Choice…Or Truly A Free One

From the Helpers

Two weeks ago, I arrived at 1pm on Friday. Just as I went over to start sidewalk counselling, a young woman (I’ll call her B.) came out and sat on the steps of 63 Bank St. She kept rubbing her belly, looking rather sad. I approached her an offered her a rosary, which she took. As I was looking through my flyers for a “How to pray the rosary” brochure, she noticed a “Rachel’s Vineyard” flyer which read “Healing after abortion”. She took it right out of my hand and said “I need that, I never want to come back here again”. She then shared with me what made her feel like she had no choice but to have an abortion. One of those reasons was that she was a recovering addict. She also mentioned that her fiancĂ© was against the abortion. As the conversation went on, I just gave thanks to God for the prayers that must have gone on before I got there, for she was so open to God’s grace. As St. Paul says, “I planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.” (1 Corinthians 3:6 ). Someone had obviously been there to plant the seed before I got there to water, but all the while, God was pouring grace into her heart. Please pray for B. and her fiancĂ©. They have a rocky road ahead of them putting their lives in order.
Pray that they will reach out for spiritual help.

Also, if you haven’t done so yet, please take the time to show your support for Roxanne’s Law.
There are various ways to do so :

Last week, I was there with a new sidewalk counsellor in training. I approached a young couple just as they were nearing the door of 65 Bank. The young woman looked back at me intently, but before she had a chance to take a brochure or say anything, the man she was with just yanked her into the building as if trying to prevent her from speaking to me. The new sidewalk counsellor and I were aghast. Clearly, this young woman had the intention to speak to me, but that “choice” was taken away from her. I wonder how many other “choices” she was prevented to make in the days and weeks leading to this appointment.
