Last night at Morgetaler’s abortuary at 65 Bank Street, otherwise appropriately named as ‘Ground Zero’ by pro-life activists, the 40 Days for Life Campaign officially kicked off in Ottawa. Some 300 faithful attended Mass at St. Pat’s and then approx. half of this number walked by candlelight to Ground Zero to hear some words and music of encouragement from organizers. The campaign is part of a much larger effort across North America and Europe. In Canada, we have 9 cities participating in this particular campaign – an almost two-fold increase from the last campaign. This campaign will be more modest in scope from previous campaigns with participants asked to cover a 12 hour period from 7AM-7PM every day for the next 40 days. Socon or Bust readers are encouraged to sign up and engage in the spiritual war.
One of the speakers tonight was “Doris”, the head sidewalk counsellor who counsels women against abortion as they enter the abortuary. She’s part of an organization called “Helper’s of God’s Precious Infants’. In her talk, she gave a very tragic statistic. Abortions are performed Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and occasionally on Saturdays at Morgentaler’s killing centre.
9 abortions in the morning.
9 abortions in the afternoon.
I’m not sure why this had a profound effect on me. Maybe it was because it was such a definite number, apportioned during specific parts of the day. Maybe it was the exactness of it all. Before we have lunch today, 9 babies will have been targeted and terminated at 65 Bank Street. Three times a week. Over 50 babies/week. In Ottawa. Where you live.
Dismembered and then shipped off for incineration…or some other form of Godless disposal.
So, can you tell me why exactly you can’t spend one hour in prayer where they are murdered?
Is it really that much to ask? Is it?
H/T Big Blue Wave for the pics.
